Former PCRL DJ Dies! (b.3-8-1959-d.10-1-2010)

News just in that Mikey B., aka Michael Bassue (left in photo) has just died in Sheffield from pneumonia. Mikey was with PCRL in our early days (having previously been with BBC Radio Sheffield,) then he left us in 1987 to join Enterprise FM for a while and he later became a part of the doomed Buzz FM.

The news comes to us from his cousin Rankin' Festus who fondly remembers Mikey training him in the use of studio equipment for his first PCRL show in 1986. Mikey was said to have later run Buzz FM & Club LaMystique for a while. Cecil and especially Pilot were shocked when they also were told about his death.

On Tuesday 26th January Mickey Nold, Pilot & Cecil joined Mikey's family and friends including PCRL DJ's Rankin' Festus, Bee Jay, Calton C. & Daddy Studio in Sheffield's New Testament Church for his send off. Hundreds of family and friends were in attendance. The church service, gospel singers, choir and friends tributes was a wonderful tribute to his life. Our love is with the family at this time of great disappear.

Please email us with your thoughts on this presenter and what he did for black radio.   ( run Mikey B show www.thepiratearchive.net)

Over our many years of broadcasting we have collected 100's of hours of video footage!

Although a lot of it was already out there it was a bit hard to put it all together. So now a new page as been launched with over 40 PCRL clips that date back to 1986. More will be added if I get some response from some of the thousands of people in the footage!

25 years of music - come on crowd of people where are you now!

pcrl's background:-

PCRL had a strong tradition where it's DJ's played honest music that spoke to the heart and the soul. This website was launched in May 2002 as an aid to the radio station's programming but since the station's demise, it has remained as a reminder of what was missing from UK radio today, that's a sense of worth. Our black history calendar brings you up to date for most of the events for this day/month going back nearly 2500 years! it includes musical performers' deaths and births. This includes; blues, jazz, jug-stars, soul, r&b, reggae, rap, soca, gospel, opera, painters, film producers, music producers, sports personalities and civil rights activists. The History pages are now our press cuttings and are being updated regularly. Remember PCRL lives on though YOU the community and although we are no longer on the air we can still speak to the world through this website. If you have something to say then contact us now. Thank you for your interest and we hope you can find some favorite memories of an era lost that was fought for by Cecil Morris & his friends with a freedom of speech and music never achieved previously in the United Kingdom.  The website costs money to run and has no paying adverts. If you would like to make a donation towards it's up-keep - we thank you
